Just a smart choice for a brief stop-in in Shanghai with very nice value for money. The staff was polite and helpful . Make sure to request a room that doesn't face the school.

The hotel was a perfect place for enjoying a really quiet area, not far from the centre of Shanghai and subway stations and the outskirts of the French concession which has the most wonderful shops.

Great breakfast options offered every morning.
Upon check-in, my room wasn't ready at the promised time. I had requested an early check-in due to my early flight, but they told me to wait until 3 PM, disappointing. Even then, when I finally got a room, it was in a new extension and lacked a bathtub, which I was really looking forward to. The staff's English was too limited for clear communication, causing further frustration during the check-in process.

Staff were all very helpful. Location is great. The building has some wonderful history and character. Breakfast was quite substantial.
Some renovation and cleaning is required in many areas of the hotel. The carpet was noticeably stained and dirty in our room(suite). No safe for valuables was in the room. Water pressure in the shower was well below what one would expect in an establishment of this stature. Some form of elevator would make a considerable improvement for guests in the upper levels. Stairs are okay under most circumstances, but moving heavy luggage up and down in confined old staircases is not commensurate with a hotel of this class.

Ideal for those who appreciate unique charm
The hotel had this amazing old world charm to it, like stepping back into a fairy tale, and the breakfast they served was so delicious it. I also loved how the staff were eager to help with everything, like ordering taxis and giving great recommendations for nearby restaurants, true 5-star service.
It wasn't cheap but still within a reasonable range for what you get.

I am very impressed by this boutique hotel. Staffs provide excellent services. The hotel use native Shanghainese staffs to offer a very local touch of this ancient villa. It is not luxury, dazzling but it is charming and comfortable. The is the best boutique hotel I have stayed in China. Congratulations for the team!

the building has a charming history. an original place in Shanghai in very centre location.
the breakfast was not too satisfying. and the noise outside the old windows were terrible! very early in morning like 6 o'clock, the site next to the hotel starts noisy construction works. it's not the hotel's fault but they should give some efforts to minimize the noise then.
